Description:

This free webinar will focus on the SBIRT model within the criminal justice system. A description of the tools used within the Cook County Model will be shared as well as the locations the tools are administered.  Focus on the essential need for collaboration between partners will be highlighted with specific examples given from the Cook County Model.  Examples of effective application and identified areas for expansion will be discussed.

Angela L. Ellis, BS, CARS

Cook County State’s Attorney Deferred Prosecution Programs

Ms. Ellis supervises TASC programs that provides and integrates SBIRT screening in the Cook County State’s Attorney Deferred Prosecution Programs. These include the State’s Attorney’s Drug Abuse Program, Felony Deferred Prosecution and Misdemeanor Deferred Prosecution. Utilizing internal and external collaborations, Angela is a tireless advocate for community safety as well an active proponent for reversing the tide for over incarceration of people with substance abuse and mental health conditions.  She is currently charged with developing and expanding similar community based services throughout Cook County which are designed to save costs, address individuals’ health issues and reduce recidivism. Ellis has over 18 years of experience in substance abuse treatment and is a 16-year TASC veteran. She has participated in webinars and other trainings related to the SBIRT and deferred prosecution programs. Angela earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from National Louis University and is a Certified Assessment Referral Specialist.
